Are you ready to be a cut above the rest? WSU Tech’s National Institute for Culinary facility, more commonly known as NICHE, offers an educational experience like no other. Located in downtown Wichita, NICHE features state-of-the-art commercial kitchens, classrooms, a demonstration kitchen, an open-to-the-public food hall, a student-run café, and a rooftop event center.

Degree and Certificate options:

WSU Tech offers a variety of degree and certificate options in Culinary Arts.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS): Typically a 2-Year Program
Technical Certificate (TC): Typically a 1-Year Program
Certificate of Completion (COC): Usually completed in less than 1 semester

The Culinary Arts program will prepare individuals with little to no industry experience for entry-level and secondary food service positions with the potential for expedited promotion. The curriculum covers a diverse menu of options, from artisanal breads and pastries to global cuisines classes and places emphasis on maximizing lab contact hours, and providing real-world experience in an urban location within the framework of innovation, sustainability, and accessibility.

The Culinary Arts program emphasizes the importance of hands-on learning with over 1,000 hours in the kitchen, program graduates will be equipped with an expanded level of kitchen experience than graduates of other similar programs in the area.

Students will develop the skills to assist in menu development and product development that will in turn assist them in their professional advancement beyond entry-level positions. Drawing on the model set by the greatest culinary schools in the country, the students’ experience will include café, restaurant, banquets, events, and commercial food production – much of which will be available to the public.
